PH Authorities Block 2 Violence-Linked Websites; Issue 24-Hour Ultimatum to Discord and Reddit

In a major regulatory crackdown on digital threats, Philippine authorities have officially blocked nationwide access to two websites accused of enticement of minors and inciting real-world violence.

During a press briefing on Monday, September 21, 2026, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson PCol. Allen Rae Co revealed that the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) coordinated directly with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to enforce the immediate blocking of the platforms.

The directive, ordered by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., follows a string of violent student incidents. This includes the high-profile September 18 event at Banga National High School in South Cotabato. Authorities declined to name the specific websites to avoid driving curiosity and traffic to them.

Meanwhile, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) escalated enforcement by issuing a strict 24-hour ultimatum to global social platforms Reddit and Discord.

In separate letters dated September 21, CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso ordered both companies to immediately designate a resident agent or official local representative in the Philippines. The mandate seeks to accelerate government jurisdiction and law enforcement coordination regarding online safety threats.

The platforms were also ordered to submit written documentation detailing their safety protocols, rapid-response mechanisms, and age-assurance measures. The CICC warned that failure to comply within the 24-hour window could prompt the agency, in coordination with other regulatory bodies, to restrict operations or prohibit access to both platforms nationwide.
