Only Reddit Granted Deadline Extension by CICC; Discord Excluded

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has clarified that its deadline extension for establishing a local presence applies solely to Reddit, completely excluding Discord.

The agency revised its stance after initially reporting that both platforms had received reprieves. According to the CICC, the extension was granted to Reddit after its officials held an online meeting within the mandatory 24-hour window, committing to strengthen online child safety and discuss establishing a physical Philippine office. The talks also covered creating "green lanes"—direct reporting channels for law enforcement to rapidly flag and investigate harmful content.

In contrast, Discord’s request for an extension remains denied. While Discord submitted a letter detailing its existing youth safety protocols, the CICC stated that no reprieve will be issued until the platform engages in direct talks and provides concrete commitments.

Authorities are strictly scrutinizing Discord following concerns over extremist online communities linked to recent school violent incidents. Both platforms originally faced potential nationwide blocking if they failed to appoint a local resident agent.
