MMDA Revives Iconic ‘Love Bus’ as Electric Fleet; Opens New Annex, Interactive Gallery

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officially inaugurated its new Annex Building, an Interactive Gallery, and the modern revival of the iconic "Love Bus" fleet at its headquarters on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. First Lady Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos and MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando "Don" Artes spearheaded the inauguration ceremonies.

A nod to the historic 1970s transit staple, the revived Love Bus fleet features eco-friendly, zero-emission electric vehicles. Each bus can accommodate up to 36 passengers. The initial six-unit fleet consists of vehicles donated by private sector partners Robinsons Land and Megaworld, alongside the City of Antipolo and the Provincial Government of Rizal.

Regular operations are scheduled to begin tomorrow, September 10, offering free daily shuttle services from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM along the following loop:

Eastbound Route: From Robinsons Galleria (Ortigas Avenue), turn right to Meralco Avenue, turn left at J. Vargas Ave. MMDA New Building, turn right at Lanuza Ave., turn left at CP Garcia Ave. (C5), turn to Arcovia City, then turn right at CP Garcia Ave. (C5), then C5 J Vargas Ave. Footbridge (near Eagle St.), to Bridgetowne/Opus Mall, then to Eastwood City.

Westbound Route: From Eastwood City, exit to CP Garcia Ave. via Orchard Rd., take service road, U-turn underneath the Libis flyover, straight along CP Garcia Ave. (C5) Southbound, turn right at J Vargas Ave., turn right at Sapphire St., turn left towards the Robinsons Galleria ramp back to Robinsons PUV Stop along Ortigas Ave.

Addressing potential concerns from transport groups, Chairman Artes clarified the careful planning behind the complimentary loop. "Since rides are free, we need to ensure that the ‘Love Bus’ won’t compete with route franchises and that there are passengers to be served and no public transportation will be affected," Artes explained.

Alongside the fleet rollout, the agency opened its new Annex Building to provide expanded workspaces and unveiled an Interactive Gallery inside the main building's lobby. The gallery features interactive displays, detailed dioramas, and equipment simulations designed to educate the public on the history, civic mandates, and rescue programs of the MMDA.
