Marcos Signs Law Postponing 2026 BSKE to November 2028

The scheduled November 2, 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) have been officially postponed after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12326 into law.

Known as "An Act Fixing the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to Five Years," the new legislation amends RA 12232. It extends the term of office for elected local and youth officials from three years to five years. Under the new law, the next regular synchronized elections will take place on the second Monday of November 2028.

Following the law's signing, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced the cancellation of all preparatory activities for the 2026 polls. This includes the suspension of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs), which was slated to run from September 28 to October 5, 2026. Consequently, the poll body announced that voter registration will resume in November 2026 and will run until July 30, 2027.
