LTFRB issues Show Cause Order to motorcycle taxi platform over viral sexual harassment video

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to JoyRide PH after a viral social media video surfaced regarding the alleged sexual harassment of a female passenger by one of its motorcycle taxi riders.

Acting LTFRB Chairman Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr. directed the Motorcycle Taxi Platform Provider (MTPP) to explain in writing why its authority to operate should not be suspended or cancelled. The regulatory body has also ordered the platform provider to ensure the physical presence of the accused rider at the upcoming case hearing scheduled for October 6, 2026.

According to the initial investigation, the 24-year-old passenger booked a ride on September 13, 2026, traveling from San Mateo, Rizal, to Cubao, Quezon City, during which the rider reportedly made unwanted advances. Pua condemned the incident, reinforcing that commuter safety is a non-negotiable condition of a public transport franchise and stating that the agency will utilize all legal means to ensure accountability.

Parallel to the LTFRB administrative inquiry, criminal charges have been formally filed by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) against the rider, identified under the alias "Jhom." The rider faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Act)
