Chamber in Mourning: Quirino Gov. Dax Cua Passes Away at 48

The province of Quirino and the House of Representatives are in deep mourning following the untimely passing of Governor Dakila Carlo "Dax" Cua on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2026. He was 48 years old. His father, former Governor Junie Cua, officially confirmed the news, though the family has yet to disclose the cause of death.

To honor his 25-year legacy in public service, the House of Representatives lowered the Philippine flag to half-mast. Cua was a highly regarded figure in local governance, previously serving as the representative for the Lone District of Quirino from 2010 to 2019, and holding leadership roles as the national president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP). Following standard rules of local government succession, Vice Governor Julius Caesar "Jojo" Vaquilar formally assumed office as the new governor on September 17, 2026.

A public viewing and necrological services are currently being held at the Quirino Capitol People's Gymnasium from September 17 to 20. His remains will then be moved to the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City for an additional viewing from September 21 to 24 before his interment on September 25. Cua is survived by his wife, incumbent Quirino Lone District Representative Midy Cua, and their three children.
