PBBM Admin Pushes for ₱8.67-B DOST Scholarship Budget to Fund 67K Students in FY 2027

More young Filipinos will have the opportunity to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, research, and innovation as the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. boosts funding for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarship Programs to ₱8.67 billion under the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 National Budget.

According to data from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the proposed investment will support a total of 67,504 scholars nationwide. This represents a 3.70% increase in government-supported beneficiaries, adding 2,407 more scholars to the 65,097 students funded under the FY 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The ₱8.67 billion budget is divided into ₱7.55 billion for the DOST-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and ₱1.12 billion for the Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS). DBM Acting Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon highlighted that this increased funding supports President Marcos’s agenda to build a robust local talent pool in fields like agriculture, health, and digital transformation. The proposed budget is currently under legislative review.
