MARCOS INVOKES NINOY LEGACY TO WARN AGAINST DISINFORMATION, DIVISION

NEWS | President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined the nation on Friday, August 21, 2026, in marking Ninoy Aquino Day, calling on Filipinos to protect democratic freedoms amid modern societal challenges.

Marcos acknowledged that the "challenges facing our democracy may have changed over time," explicitly pointing to disinformation, division, distrust, and civic indifference. However, he emphasized that a shared responsibility to reinforce democratic values remains constant.

"Ninoy's legacy encourages us to meet these challenges with vigilance and faith in the Filipino people as we work together to deliver meaningful progress for all," Marcos said. He further stated that his administration remains steadfast in protecting national sovereignty, upholding the rule of law, and creating opportunities to match the liberties citizens cherish.

The late senator, a chief critic of the President’s father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was assassinated at the Manila International Airport on August 21, 1983, a pivotal event that eventually led to the 1986 People Power Revolution.
