KATSEYE Leader Sophia Laforteza Announces Temporary Hiatus for Mental Wellness
KATSEYE leader Sophia Laforteza will temporarily step away from all upcoming promotional activities to prioritize her mental health and wellness. Joint management labels HYBE x Geffen Records announced on Weverse that medical professionals advised an extended period of rest for her full recovery.
Current Group Lineup & Schedule Impact
The global pop group will operate as a reduced four-member lineup consisting of Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung. Management plans to reassess Laforteza's condition in September 2026 to determine her next steps.
Her hiatus comes at a critical operational period, forcing her to miss major milestones:
- The "Wild" EP Launch: The group's third EP is scheduled for release on August 14.
- Documentary Premiere: The global premiere of Katseye: WILD HEARTS.
- Live Festivals: High-profile performances, including the Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival at the Rose Bowl.
Rising Pressures in Global Pop Training
Laforteza is the second member of the ensemble to step back this year, following bandmate Manon Bannerman's health hiatus in February. Industry analysts note that these consecutive breaks highlight the intense psychological toll of the global pop training system, especially as the group navigates a rapid rise to fame following two recent Grammy nominations.
In a personal message addressed to fans (EYEKONS) on Instagram, the 23-year-old artist shared her heartbreak over missing scheduled events. "Making this decision wasn't easy, but I'm learning that health has to come first," Laforteza wrote, promising to heal properly and return stronger.
