IDCP Withdraws Halal Certification for Four Popular Canned Beef Loaf Brands

The Islamic Da'wah Council of the Philippines, Inc. (IDCP) has officially withdrawn its Halal certification for four widely distributed canned beef loaf products.

In a public advisory, the IDCP announced that the products failed to maintain strict compliance with its established Halal processing standards. As a result, the council stated it can no longer guarantee the Halal status of these items, rendering them uncertified for Muslim consumers. The order took effect on July 27, 2026.

Affected Products

The withdrawal specifically targets four highly popular canned beef loaf variants found in major supermarkets and local sari-sari stores across the country: Argentina Beef Loaf (Regular), Argentina Beef Loaf (Hot and Spicy), 555 Beef Loaf, and Lucky 7 Beef Loaf.

Strict Compliance Issues

While the IDCP did not disclose specific laboratory findings or exact ingredient violations, the organization emphasized that the decision stems from a direct failure to meet IDCP-Halal compliance requirements during routine audits.

Halal certification requires rigorous oversight of the entire supply chain. This includes checking raw material sourcing, factory sanitation, cross-contamination prevention, and handling procedures. The council noted that the manufacturers fell short of these critical processing benchmarks, forcing an immediate revocation of their certified status.

Government and Community Response

The announcement triggered swift advisories from regional authorities and Islamic agencies to protect Muslim consumers. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) via its National Capital Region office quickly echoed the warning, urging the public to stop buying and consuming the affected batches.

Simultaneously, agencies within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have mobilized to spread awareness across the region. Local Halal enforcement groups are monitoring marketplaces to ensure consumers are fully informed of the change.

Guidelines for Consumers

Religious and consumer groups have issued the following recommendations following the announcement:

• Check Existing Stocks: Consumers should check their pantries for the four specific beef loaf brands and avoid consuming them.
• Isolate the Scope: This advisory currently applies only to the four listed beef loaf products. It does not automatically disqualify other canned goods, such as corned beef or meat loaf, from the same parent brands.
• Exercise Caution: Shoppers are urged to look for alternative, verified Halal logos on packaging and treat uncertified items from these specific lines as Mushbooh (doubtful) until manufacturers resolve their compliance issues.

Representatives from the affected brands have not yet released an official statement regarding potential reformulations or steps to regain their IDCP certification.
