DICT, Telcos Tighten Online Blocks Against 'Nihilistic Violent Extremism'

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has intensified its threat monitoring and vigilance against "nihilistic violent extremism" (NVE) and other harmful digital content. In response, major internet service providers—including Globe, Smart, PLDT, and Converge—have strengthened their voluntary, network-level blocking to restrict access to graphic violence and prohibited materials.

In a press release issued on August 24, 2026, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda announced that the agency has tightened its coordination with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), and the Philippine National Police (PNP). This inter-agency collaboration aims to enhance information sharing and safeguard internet users, particularly children and young people, from emerging online threats.
