PNP Clarifies No Nationwide Gun Ban for President Marcos’ 5th SONA

The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified on Saturday, July 25, 2026, that no nationwide gun ban will be implemented for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27, 2026.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. corrected earlier reports and online claims, stating, “The PNP has not issued any directive imposing a nationwide gun ban for the event,” and that information suggesting otherwise is incorrect.

Localized Security Protocols

While a nationwide suspension of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) is not in effect, the PNP emphasized that strict security measures will be enforced locally. Rigid restrictions on firearms and weapons will be focused within designated high-security perimeters, specifically around the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

Outside these specific zones, routine national firearm laws and checkpoint protocols will operate as normal.
