Motorcycle Rider’s ‘Don’t Hurt Me’ Helmet Note Sparks Nationwide Call For Safety Upgrades

Early in the morning on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the partner of netizen Primo Baconawa booked a ride home and noticed a desperate plea taped to the back of her rider’s helmet: 

"BUNTIS PO ANG ASAWA KO. HUWAG N'YO PO AKO SANANG SAKTAN" ("My wife is pregnant. Please do not hurt me.").

Baconawa shared a photo of the encounter on Facebook, where it quickly went viral. The post resonated deeply with netizens as the transport community mourns the recent fatal stabbing and robbery of Move It rider Fabio Norberte Jr. in Caloocan City.

A Community in Fear

The Caloocan City police recently arrested two suspects linked to the killing of Norberte. The suspects reportedly posed as passengers before robbing and killing the rider.

The incident has triggered a wave of anxiety among motorcycle taxi riders who routinely accept bookings from unknown individuals late at night. Many riders have expressed feeling entirely defenseless while on the road.

Calls for Safety

In his viral post, Baconawa called out the harsh reality that forced the rider to use his pregnant wife's condition as a shield against potential violence.

"No one should ever have to wear a message like that just to make it home safely," Baconawa wrote. "No one should have to leave for work wondering if they will return alive to the family waiting for them."

Netizens and riding groups are now calling on ride-hailing platforms to implement stricter passenger verification features, such as requiring valid government identification for cash-on-delivery and night bookings, to protect riders from targeted attacks.
