Marcos to PMMA Class of 2026: Uphold Integrity, Professionalism on the Global Stage

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday, July 17, led the commencement exercises of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) "Salighirang" Class of 2026, urging the country’s newest mariners to champion the highest standards of professionalism and integrity on the global stage.

The graduation ceremony, held at the PMMA Complex, saw the commissioning of 327 merchant marine cadets and the graduation of 21 master’s degree recipients.

Call to Excellence and Humility

In his keynote address, President Marcos challenged the graduates to remain grounded despite the immense responsibilities awaiting them in the global maritime industry.

"As you embark on your respective journeys, carry with you the core values of professionalism, humility, integrity, and patriotism," the President said. "The world looks up to Filipino seafarers. Maintain that trust by leading with excellence and serving with honor."

The Chief Executive emphasized that the graduates represent the future of the country's seafaring industry, which remains a vital pillar of both the local economy and global trade supply chains.

Commitment to Maritime Leadership

The President also reaffirmed his administration's dedication to strengthening the Philippine maritime sector. He highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at upgrading local maritime education, alignment with international seafaring standards, and safeguarding the welfare of Filipino sailors navigating modern global challenges.

The PMMA Class of 2026, named "Salighirang"—which stands for Salinlahi ng mga Kawal na Humaharap sa Hamon ng Panahon, May Integridad at Katapatang Ikararangal ng Sambayanan—marks another milestone for the state-run academy, which has been producing top-tier merchant marine officers for over two centuries.
