MARCOLETA ARRESTED OVER ₱75-M PLUNDER RAP; SENATOR SURRENDERS AS SARA DUTERTE IMPEACHMENT OPENS

The case originated from a July 3, 2026, filing by the Office of the Ombudsman, which found prima facie evidence against the senator. Authorities allege that Marcoleta accepted ₱75 million in campaign donations during the 2025 mid-term election period but intentionally omitted the funds from his official Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).

Under Philippine law, plunder is classified as a non-bailable offense when the amount involved meets or exceeds the ₱50 million threshold.

The Sandiganbayan also ordered the arrest of three individuals accused of conspiring with the lawmaker:

• Joseph Espiritu: Businessman (Now in police custody)
• Aristotle Viray: Businessman (Remains at large; subject to ongoing police tracker operations)

Following his booking procedures at the anti-graft court, Marcoleta was placed under the custody of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
