McDonald’s Philippines officially launched two new dessert pastries nationwide to fill the menu void left by the recent retirement of its iconic Apple Pie.

The fast-food giant introduced the Choco Lava Puff and the Taro Custard Pie, offering customers elevated flavor profiles aimed at satisfying the country's collective sweet tooth. The rollout coincides with a broader revamping of the brand's local snack lineup.

Menu Innovation Follows Apple Pie Retirement

The launch comes immediately after McDonald's announced it was phasing out its classic baked Apple Pie, a decades-long staple of its local dessert menu. To ease the transition for disappointed fans, the company developed two distinct pastry concepts.

The new additions lean heavily into premium textures and trending local flavors:
  • Choco Lava Puff: A crispy, dark cocoa pastry shell filled with a rich, molten chocolate center. It is priced starting at ₱59.
  • Taro Custard Pie: A traditional crispy pie crust packed with a dual filling of real, chunky taro pieces and a smooth vanilla custard layer. It is priced starting at ₱49.

Strategic Push for the Snack Market

Beyond stand-alone dessert sales, McDonald's is leveraging these new pastries to anchor its revamped afternoon value tier. Both the Choco Lava Puff and the Taro Custard Pie have been integrated into the McSavers Snack & Match promotion.

Under this framework, customers can pair either new pastry with a select beverage or side item for a flat rate of ₱79, a move industry analysts view as a direct play to capture budget-conscious students and office workers during the afternoon lull.

Availability

The Choco Lava Puff and Taro Custard Pie are available starting today across all McDonald's branches in the Philippines. Customers can purchase the items through front-counter dining, drive-thrus, the official McDelivery app, or third-party food delivery platforms.
