DICT’s eGovPH Hackathon 2026 Closes with Fresh Tech Solutions to Cut Bureaucracy

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) officially concluded its highly anticipated eGovPH Hackathon 2026 today, July 22, showcasing an intense 48-hour sprint of civic innovation aimed at digitizing public services.

The two-day national competition, which commenced yesterday at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City, brought together the country's top tech talent to develop solutions for integration into the eGovPH Super App ecosystem.

Driving Public Sector Digitalization

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the opening ceremonies alongside DICT Secretary Henry Aguda and Undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr. The presence of high-ranking officials underscored the administration's aggressive push toward comprehensive digital transformation and the elimination of bureaucratic red tape.

According to organizers, the hackathon serves as a targeted initiative to assemble engineering talent capable of restructuring complex, archaic bureaucratic workflows into streamlined digital processes. The ultimately selected applications are slated to enhance the eGovPH platform, which currently supports a user base exceeding 61 million citizens.

National Talent on Display

The event drew more than 400 participants, including software developers, programmers, data scientists, UX designers, and students representing various regions across the archipelago.

Competing in strict teams of five, the innovators were tasked with building secure, scalable, and user-centric software prototypes. The competition focused heavily on modernizing public utilities, leveraging Generative AI, creating secure data exchange layers, and optimizing digital citizen feedback channels.

Path to Implementation

As the competition wrapped up this evening, a panel of government officials and tech industry leaders evaluated the final presentations based on functionality, security, and scalability. The top-performing teams received substantial cash prizes and structural support, with their code destined for rapid deployment within the government’s live digital infrastructure.
