Cebu Pacific Wins Malaysian Lawsuit Against AirAsia MOVE Operator

Cebu Pacific has scored a major legal victory after a Malaysian court ruled in its favor regarding a trademark dispute against MOVE Travel Sdn Bhd, the operator of the AirAsia MOVE travel platform.

The High Court of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur issued a permanent injunction against MOVE Travel, finding it liable for trademark infringement and the unauthorized distribution of Cebu Pacific tickets.

Permanent Injunction and Fines

The court ordered MOVE Travel to immediately cease using the "Cebu Pacific" and "Cebgo" brands. It also ordered the platform to stop selling or advertising the airline's flights. Furthermore, the court recognized the carrier’s branding as "well-known trademarks" under Malaysian law.

As part of the ruling, MOVE Travel was ordered to pay: RM120,000 (approximately ₱1.58 million) in legal costs; and Additional damages, which will be assessed in a separate court inquiry.

Direct Booking Advisory

Following the legal victory, Cebu Pacific issued an advisory urging passengers to book flights directly through its official website at Cebu Pacific Air or via its official mobile app. The airline reiterated that direct bookings ensure passengers receive accurate flight schedules, prompt travel updates, and avoid extra third-party service fees.
