18 Injured in Bataan Road Crash After Jeepney Suffers Brake Failure

A severe mechanical malfunction triggered a multi-vehicle and structural crash on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2026, leaving 18 individuals injured.

According to an official report from the Bataan Police Provincial Office led by Provincial Director Col. Maritess Salvadora, the accident transpired around 7:00 PM at Purok 2A, Umali Street in Barangay Roosevelt.

Chronology of the Crash

A public utility jeepney (PUJ) driven by Elizalde Dela Peña Pineda was traveling from Olongapo City toward Dinalupihan. While traversing Sitio Bilyaran, a passenger requested to disembark from the vehicle.

The driver stepped on the brakes, but the system completely failed to engage, sending the jeepney speeding out of control. In a desperate attempt to minimize casualties, Pineda tried to steer clear of a stationary Victory Liner bus that was loading and unloading passengers nearby.

The runaway jeepney clipped the left rear portion of the bus. The momentum kept the vehicle moving forward until it collided head-on with a concrete electric post and violently smashed through the fence of a residential home.

Emergency Response and Casualties

Dispatched medical and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene. Responders transported Pineda and all 17 injured passengers to the J.C. Payumo Memorial Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Initial assessments from hospital staff indicated that none of the victims sustained fatal or life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no passengers aboard the stationary Victory Liner bus reported any injuries.

Local traffic investigators are conducting a thorough probe into the incident to accurately determine the total cost of property damage and establish official liabilities among the involved parties.
