A severe localized thunderstorm unleashed destructive winds and heavy torrential rains on Monday afternoon, June 1, 2026, causing a covered parking structure to completely collapse and trap multiple vehicles inside the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) ACCESS Campus.

The structural failure occurred at approximately 4:00 PM as sudden, violent wind gusts battered the university grounds. According to school administrators, the intense weather conditions compromised the facility's roof and heavy metal frameworks, causing them to give way entirely.

Images and video footage shared across social media by resident Adrian Pro captured the immediate aftermath of the destruction, showing numerous cars and motorcycles crushed or heavily pinned beneath the mangled sheets of corrugated roofing.
The university administration confirmed that the destruction extended beyond the parking facility:

Widespread Obstructions: Multiple large trees and electrical posts were uprooted and blown down across major campus thoroughfares.

Zero Casualties: Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported on the campus during the incident.

Emergency Interventions: School officials immediately redirected faculty and students to a temporary exit gate to avoid the debris field while engineering crews began inspecting remaining campus structures for secondary risks.

Broader Regional Impact

The destructive thunderstorm was not isolated to the university campus. Strong winds also hit Barangay Cale-an in Tacurong City, damaging several residential homes and forcing affected families to seek temporary shelter with nearby relatives.

The sudden weather shift aligns directly with official regional alerts issued earlier by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The state weather bureau had explicitly warned of localized thunderstorms capable of triggering heavy downpours across the SOCCSKSARGEN and Davao regions.

PAGASA Safety Advisory

Following the localized destruction, PAGASA weather forecasters reissued warnings urging residents in Mindanao to remain highly vigilant against sudden hazardous weather changes.

"All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards, which include flash floods and landslides," the bureau stated.

Disaster management officials continue to monitor low-lying and mountainous zones in Sultan Kudarat, reminding communities experiencing continuous rainfall to be ready for immediate preemptive evacuation.
