PhilSA Launches 'HiRAYA' Award to Honor High School Space Researchers
The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) has officially opened submissions for its newly launched high school space research award, inviting outstanding student innovators across the country to showcase their scientific projects.
The initiative, dubbed PhilSA High School Research and Innovation Award to Yield Advancement in Space Science and Technology (HiRAYA), aims to foster a sustainable local space economy by recognizing young innovators. Hiraya, meaning "the fruit of one's hopes and dreams," reflects the program's vision.
Integration with National Science Competitions
PhilSA HiRAYA is integrated with the Department of Education's (DepEd) Regional and National Science and Technology Fairs (RSTF and NSTF). The award targets high school research projects covering fields like atmospheric science, remote sensing, and satellite engineering applications that align with PhilSA's Key Development Areas.
Selection Process and Recognition
A specialized panel will select winners based on criteria including creativity, technical rigor, and presentation. Recognition will be given at both regional (RSTF) and national (NSTF) levels, with winning researchers receiving certificates, plaques, and funding for further studies.
Highlighting the importance of nurturing future talent, PhilSA Ad Interim Director General Gay Jane P. Perez, Ph.D., noted that the initiative seeks to foster a stronger culture of scientific innovation among Filipino youth.
