Philippine Airlines to Join oneworld Alliance as 16th Global Member

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has officially accepted an invitation to join the oneworld Alliance, marking a historic transformation for the country's flag carrier. The announcement was made on June 6, 2026, at the IATA 82nd Annual General Meeting, with formal entry expected in 2027. Once finalized, PAL will be the 16th member and second Southeast Asian carrier in the alliance, adding 31 new destinations to the network.
Strategic Expansion and Benefits
PAL, celebrating its 85th year, was described as a "perfect fit" to bolster oneworld's presence in Asia. "This is a defining and transformative moment," said PAL Holdings, Inc. President Lucio C. Tan III. The partnership brings significant benefits
The integration adds 31 unique destinations to the oneworld network, giving alliance travelers direct access to new parts of the Philippines. Mabuhay Miles members will gain the ability to earn and redeem miles across all 15 partner airlines, including British Airways, Qatar Airways, and Japan Airlines.
PAL Million Miler, Premier Elite, and Elite frequent flyers will match into oneworld Emerald, Sapphire, and Ruby tiers, unlocking global priority services.Eligible passengers will gain entry to over 600 airport lounges worldwide, alongside priority check-in, fast-track security, and extra baggage allowances.
Regional Presence
PAL becomes only the second full-member airline based in Southeast Asia, joining Malaysia Airlines to solidify the alliance's footprint in the ASEAN. Integration teams from both sides will spend the next year aligning IT infrastructure, operational policies, and loyalty programs ahead of the 2027 launch.
