Reigning Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma sparked widespread pageantry discussion after confirming she will not take a traditional farewell walk or participate in the crown turnover ceremony at the 2026 coronation event in Bukidnon.

Instead, Barcoma took to her official Facebook account to issue her prepared farewell speech, declaring she will "always and forever be an Earth Queen."

Choosing Grace and Advocacy

In her published statement, the 27-year-old beauty queen reflected deeply on her 12-month tenure, explicitly addressing the challenges she encountered behind the scenes.

"As my reign comes to a close, I choose gratitude above everything else," Barcoma wrote. "This journey also reminded me that support doesn't always come from every corner, even within the spaces you represent. But despite that, I chose grace, respect, and gratitude."

The Cavite-native and Polytechnic University of the Philippines broadcasting alumna noted that she intentionally built her own path during her reign rather than waiting for opportunities. She emphasized that environmental advocacy relies on action, not stage time.

"Hindi natatapos sa entablado ang pagboses. At hindi limitado ng korona ang adbokasiya"(Voice doesn't end on stage. And advocacy isn't limited by the crown), she added, reminding followers that her vocal environmental platform extends far past the physical crown.

Legacy Over Footsteps

While her sudden absence on the coronation stage surprised fans, Barcoma reframed the narrative by prioritizing her impact over pageantry tradition.

"Tonight, I may not have a farewell walk," she stated. "But perhaps that is the greatest reminder that a legacy is never measured by the number of steps she takes on stage but by footprints she leaves in the lives of others."

Barcoma closed her speech by thanking the Miss Philippines Earth Organization and urging the public to rally behind her successor with the same level of enthusiasm given to her own eco-advocacy journey.

Denying her a conventional farewell, the Miss Philippines Earth organization chose to exclude her presence from the 2026 coronation finals night. The event was held at the Malitbog Cultural Center in Bukidnon on Saturday evening, June 27, 2026. Instead of crowning her successor, Barcoma chose to spend her final moments as the reigning queen among hundreds of thousands of supportive citizens. She emerged as a surprise guest host during the fourth staging of LoveLaban at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City.

An Unexpected Pageant Ouster

The drama escalated hours before the national coronation when Barcoma confirmed via social media that she would not be present to pass on her crown. This confirmed long-standing rumors of a severe fallout between the beauty queen and the pageant's organizer, Carousel Productions.

Instead of a traditional turnover, Miss Earth 2025 Natálie Puškinová was called upon to crown the new winner, Rina Andrea Delos Santos of Cagayan.

A Runway of Rainbows at UP Diliman

While pageant fans voiced immense disappointment online, political and cultural figures immediately rallied behind Barcoma. Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña extended an open public invitation for her to skip the pageant altogether and join the city's Pride March instead.

Her subsequent last-minute addition to the LoveLaban PH Festival 2026 program stunned the massive crowd. Dressed in a radiant white gown and a rainbow-colored sash, Barcoma was welcomed onto the stage by event hosts Jervi Wrightson (Kaladkaren), Justine Pena, and Migs Almendras.

Kaladkaren explicitly called out the pageant controversy to the roaring crowd:

"Didn't she miss out on her final walk? Well, sorry, but she will take her final walk right here at LoveLaban 2026!"
