BEER TRUCK SPILL BLOCKS SORSOGON HIGHWAY

A major highway cleanup operation is underway after an overloaded delivery truck spilled nearly 2,000 cases of alcoholic beverages across a busy thoroughfare in Barangay Buhatan on Tuesday night, local authorities reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:59 PM on June 16, 2026, along the Maharlika Highway in the East District of Sorsogon City.

According to Barangay Buhatan Captain Edwin Divina, the cargo truck was traveling from the Sorsogon City Proper toward Barangay Abuyog when its payload shifted. An estimated 1,944 cases of drinks, including Red Horse beer, skidded off the vehicle and shattered across the asphalt.

Initial investigations by local police point to overloading as the primary cause of the cargo failure.
The impact left the highway covered in a thick layer of beer foam, wooden crates, and thousands of shards of broken glass. Despite the scale of the spill and the flying debris, local officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

First responders immediately cordoned off the area to protect motorists. Teams from the Sorsogon City Police Station, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Seguridad Kaayusan Katrangkiluhan (SK3) public safety office worked through the night to clear the lanes.

Traffic was temporarily rerouted while personnel swept the hazardous glass fragments from the roadway.
