A wing van truck caught fire while waiting in line at Lane 11 of the Marshalling Area inside the Port of Batangas Terminal, disrupting afternoon operations and sending a wave of panic through the port.

According to emergency response logs, the incident began at approximately 3:35 p.m.. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was suddenly engulfed in thick smoke and heavy flames while parked in the staging queue.

As the fire grew, several loud explosions were heard echoing from the vehicle. The blasts triggered panic among nearby passengers who were actively disembarking from vessels and other vehicles parked across the pier area.

Joint Emergency Response

A swift, multi-agency response team was deployed to contain the hazard. First responders included elements from the: Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Batangas, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Batangas Port Police, PNP Maritime Group Batangas, Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) emergency personnel

Responding units immediately initiated evacuation protocols for port users and steered adjacent cargo vehicles away from Lane 11 to ensure public safety. Firefighters engaged in aggressive fire suppression maneuvers to stop the flames from jumping to other terminal assets.

Fire Extinguished

Emergency teams successfully declared a total fire-out at 4:21 p.m., less than an hour after the initial ignition. The Philippine Coast Guard and local terminal authorities confirmed that no individuals were injured or killed during the fire or subsequent explosions.

Arson investigators from BFP Batangas are currently examining the charred remains of the wing van to determine the exact mechanical or electrical fault that initiated the blaze. Normal port operations and queuing lanes have since been safely restored.
