Tragedy in Nayarit: 11 Dead in Labor Day Weekend Bus Crash
A holiday weekend turned into a scene of devastation in western Mexico after a tourist bus overturned, claiming at least 11 lives and leaving 31 others injured. The accident occurred on Friday near the town of Amatlán de Cañas, in the state of Nayarit, as families were traveling to celebrate the Labor Day holiday.
According to state officials, the bus was transporting passengers from the neighboring state of Jalisco toward a local recreational center when it veered off the highway and landed on its side in a muddy ravine. Emergency responders confirmed that six people died instantly at the scene, while five others succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to nearby hospitals.
The Nayarit State Government has since mobilized specialized medical units and civil protection teams from both Nayarit and Jalisco to assist the survivors. Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero expressed his condolences to the families affected and assured that state resources are being prioritized for the recovery and care of the 31 injured passengers.
Local authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine if mechanical failure or road conditions contributed to the crash. As of Saturday, several victims remains in critical condition.
