PNP Arrests QC Officer Who Pushed Motorcycle Rider in Viral Dashcam Video
A Philippine National Police (PNP) officer is in custody following his arrest on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, after a dashcam video went viral showing him intentionally pushing a civilian motorcycle rider into a violent crash along the C5 Road in Pasig City and fleeing the scene.
The suspect, identified as a Police Staff Sergeant assigned to the Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD) District Mobile Force Battalion, faces severe criminal charges, administrative dismissal, and the immediate suspension of his driving privileges.
Road Rage on C5 Leads to Crash
The incident occurred during rush hour on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of C5 Road and Lanuza Avenue in Pasig City.
According to an investigation by the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG), the victim, civilian rider Vincent Cayanes, was navigating the heavy traffic when he overtook a cargo truck. This maneuver reportedly triggered an aggressive reaction from the uniform-wearing police staff sergeant, who was operating a red-and-black Yamaha motorcycle.
Footage captured by a trailing motorist's dashcam shows the police officer pursuing Cayanes through traffic. Upon drawing parallel, the officer reached out and forcefully shoved the top box mounted on the back of Cayanes’ motorcycle.
The sudden impact caused Cayanes to lose control of his vehicle, violently swerving before crashing heavily onto the asphalt. Instead of stopping to render medical assistance or secure the scene, the officer accelerated and fled the area. Cayanes sustained multiple minor physical injuries, abrasions, and significant property damage to his motorcycle.
Swift Public Outcry and Arrest
The dashcam footage circulated widely across social media platforms on Tuesday night, sparking intense public outrage and prompting top police officials to intervene.
By Wednesday morning, PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered a coordinated hot pursuit operation to identify the rider. Utilizing the clear imagery from the viral video and transport databases, investigators traced the motorcycle and the uniform to the QCPD tactical unit.
The staff sergeant was apprehended on May 13, stripped of his service firearm, and placed in restrictive custody at Camp Crame.
Multi-Agency Legal and Administrative Actions
The PNP, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) are collaborating to expedite administrative dismissal proceedings against the officer for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
Concurrently, the victim, Vincent Cayanes, visited the HPG headquarters at Camp Crame to formally lodge criminal complaints, which include reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property, as well as abandonment of one's own victim under Article 275 of the Revised Penal Code.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) acted swiftly by issuing a Show-Cause Order (SCO) against the policeman. LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II announced the following immediate sanctions:
90-Day License Suspension: The officer’s driver's license is suspended effective immediately pending the outcome of the investigation.
Vehicle Alarm: The officer's Yamaha motorcycle has been placed under a restrictive alarm status, preventing any registration or transfer.
Official Hearing: The officer is ordered to appear at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division on Monday, May 18, 2026, to explain his actions.
Initial LTO assessments indicate the officer violated multiple provisions of Republic Act 4136 (the Land Transportation and Traffic Code), including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating a vehicle with a dilapidated, unreadable license plate. The agency added that his volatile behavior demonstrates a clear unfitness to hold a driver's license.
The NCRPO has assured the public that the case will be handled transparently, promising updates as the formal LTO hearing and criminal arraignments proceed.
