Over 60 passengers were injured after two Victory Liner buses and two private vehicles collided along Marcos Highway in Sitio Caucalan, Barangay Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet at approximately 8:35 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Initial investigations by the Tuba Municipal Police Station revealed that a southbound Victory Liner bus (body number 2025) travelling from Baguio City to Dagupan City suffered a sudden brake failure while traversing a curved, downhill section of the highway.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to sideswipe an oncoming Victory Liner bus heading uphill toward Baguio City. The force of the impact caused the southbound bus to crash into a concrete barrier and flip onto its side in the middle of the road. Two private vehicles, including a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), were also struck and heavily damaged during the pileup.

Massive Emergency Response Deployed

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) estimated that 87 passengers were aboard the two buses at the time of the accident. While no fatalities have been reported, at least 67 individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A massive, multi-agency rescue operation was immediately launched to extract trapped passengers and administer first aid. The emergency response was spearheaded by the Tuba Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), with critical reinforcement from:

MDRRMO & CDRRMO Teams: La Trinidad, Pugo, and Baguio City.
Fire & Medical Units: Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tuba and La Trinidad, City Fire, Baguio City Emergency Medical Services (BCEMS), TUBA ACDV, R87, and On Call emergency services.
Police & Volunteers: Tuba Municipal Police Station, local barangay volunteers, and personnel from the Municipal Government of Tuba.

Investigation and Clearing Operations Ongoing

Victory Liner is conducting an internal investigation in cooperation with authorities to determine the exact cause of the crash. Traffic along Marcos Highway was heavily affected through Sunday morning as crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct safety assessments. Local authorities are urging transport companies to ensure strict maintenance, particularly for vehicles traversing mountain routes.
