President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. marked the 124th Labor Day today, May 1, 2026, by leading the national commemorative rites at the KCC Convention and Events Center within KCC Mall of Gensan. Centered on the theme "Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas Sama-samang Mararating," the visit highlighted the administration’s focus on job facilitation and social protection for the Filipino workforce.

Nationwide Job Facilitation and Career Opportunities

The centerpiece of the President's visit was the Labor Day Job Fair, one of 94 simultaneous sites across the country. At the KCC Mall of Gensan alone, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) coordinated with local and overseas employers to offer over 4,000 vacancies.

President Marcos personally toured the fair, where in-demand roles included stock clerks, sales associates, and customer service representatives. He emphasized that these fairs are critical for sustaining the country’s high employment figures, which reached nearly 50 million as of February this year.

Integrated Government Services

A one-stop shop was established within the mall to streamline essential services for workers:

TESDA: Featured skills demonstrations and exhibits on upskilling programs.

PhilHealth: Launched the YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Program para Malayo sa Sakit) to improve health security for the labor sector.

Socio-Civic Aid: The President distributed ₱33.6 million in financial assistance to barangays in General Santos City and Sarangani Province, with each barangay receiving ₱200,000 for local development projects.

Commuter Tributes and Transportation Support

In a move to honor the daily grind of workers, the President reaffirmed the offering of free rides on the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2. This service is available to all workers from April 30 until May 3, 2026, during peak commuting hours (7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM), facilitating easier access to the various job fair venues nationwide.

A Focus on Sustainable Growth

The President’s visit to General Santos also included a stop at the Fish Port Complex to engage with the local fishing industry. He concluded his address by underscoring the government's commitment to creating a "fair, transparent, and investor-friendly environment" to ensure that the progress of the Bagong Pilipinas remains inclusive for every Filipino worker.
