FEU Accepts UAAP Season 89 Hosting Duties, Promotes Inclusivity for New Season
Far Eastern University (FEU) has officially taken the reins for UAAP Season 89, announcing its hosting theme "For Everyone, UAAP" and locking in the grand opening for September 12, 2026, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The formal transition took place during the UAAP Season 88 Closing Ceremony on Friday evening, May 15, 2026. The event concluded a historic season hosted by the University of Santo Tomas (UST), which secured the double General Championship title across both collegiate and high school divisions.
A Spectacular Handover at the Quadricentennial Pavilion
The hosting duties were officially transferred when UST Rector Rev. Fr. Richard Ang turned over the ceremonial UAAP flag and torch to FEU President Juan Miguel Montinola. The turnover concluded UST's glamorous, "Oscars-style" black-tie closing gala at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
An Inclusivity-Driven Vision
Following the flag presentation, the FEU Dance Company delivered a sneak-preview performance synchronized to a G minor orchestral arrangement, teasing the cultural tone of the upcoming season.
According to FEU athletic authorities, Season 89 will shift its core narrative outward. While athletic competition remains central, the theme "For Everyone, UAAP" focuses heavily on the broader ecosystem of the league—including students, fans, teachers, coaching staff, and support personnel like game officials and team drivers.
The school plans to champion heightened social awareness, community representation, and an expanded footprint for women's sports during its tenure.
Star-Studded Alumni Hype
To drum up anticipation, FEU premiered an official promotional teaser video during the broadcast. The video featured high-profile celebrity alumni, including media personality Vice Ganda and legendary rapper Gloc-9, signaling a heavy pop-culture and entertainment integration for the upcoming opening rites on September 12.
