A Tale of Two Powerhouses: BINI Joins Laufey on Stage for Epic ‘From The Start’ Duet

Grammy-winning jazz-pop singer Laufey sent shockwaves through a sold-out crowd at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 27, 2026, when she brought out P-pop sensation BINI for a surprise collaboration. The historic crossover took place during the second night of the Manila leg of Laufey's “A Matter of Time” world tour, where the two musical powerhouses joined forces for a live performance of her 2023 smash hit, “From The Start”.

A Coachella-Level Crossover in Manila

The unexpected joint performance was hailed by fans online as Manila's very own "Coachella moment." Laufey built up the tension before inviting the group out, playfully teasing the audience by asking, "Is BINI here? What?"

The eight members of BINI stepped onto the stage dressed in elegant, flowing gowns designed by Vania Romoff, perfectly matching the aesthetic of Laufey's characteristically stylish audience. The group traded lines in pairs:

Mikha and Aiah opened the verses.

Maloi and Jhoanna followed.

Colet and Stacey alongside Sheena and Gwen rounded out the smooth, bossa nova-infused arrangement.

To close out the track, Laufey personalized the final lyrics, singing, "Manila, I love you from the start," to deafening cheers from the arena.

A Full-Circle Reunion and Birthday Treat

The collaboration marked a full-circle moment for both acts, who initially crossed paths at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles just a month prior. During that April event, BINI made history as the first Filipino act to receive the Global Force Award.

According to Vogue Philippines, BINI's Maloi Ricalde initiated the connection in LA by asking Laufey for a photo, which prompted Laufey to suggest their management teams coordinate a future project. The performance also doubled as a major milestone and a memorable 24th birthday present for Maloi, who admitted she gladly postponed her personal birthday plans to share the stage with the jazz icon.

Continuing Global Momentum

The surprise appearance comes during an incredibly busy period for both artists. BINI is continuing their rapid global ascent following their landmark debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the group is currently preparing to kick off their highly anticipated Signals World Tour 2026 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on June 20.

Meanwhile, Laufey wrapped up her two-night arena stint on May 27, before shifting to more intimate performances alongside the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra at the PICC Plenary Hall. To the delight of local "Lauvers," the singer also announced she will be returning to the SM Mall of Asia Arena this coming September for her Bewitched: The Goddess Tour.
