97.9 Home Radio Bids Farewell to Live DJs: The End of an Era

In a move that has surprised the local broadcasting industry, 97.9 Home Radio (DWQZ) has reportedly moved to an all-music, automated format, effectively removing its roster of live disc jockeys as of May 2026.

The decision, implemented by parent company Aliw Broadcasting Corporation, marks a significant departure from the station’s "Natural" branding, which for years blended easy-listening hits with the warm presence of on-air personalities. Sources indicate the station is transitioning toward a "less talk, more music" strategy, relying on digital "sweepers" and pre-recorded transitions rather than live interaction.

The End of an Era

The shift follows the passing of longtime Station Manager Braggy Braganza on April 25, 2026. Braganza was widely credited with revitalizing the station in 2017, steering it back to its iconic "easy listening" roots.

Listeners have noted the absence of familiar voices who anchored the station’s daily blocks, including:

Daryl Justin (Your Wake Up Call!)

DJ Chris (Midday Classics)

DJ Jia and DJ Alex

Digital Transition

While the airwaves lack live banter, 97.9 Home Radio continues to broadcast its signature "Home of the Classics" playlist. The station is leaning heavily into its digital platforms, encouraging listeners to tune in via mobile apps and web streaming, where automated playlists are easier to manage and distribute globally.

As of press time, Aliw Broadcasting has not released an official statement regarding the long-term future of the station or whether live announcers will eventually return in a different capacity.
