40-Year-Old Ancestral House Destroyed in Barotac Nuevo Fire; P225K in Damages Reported
A fire completely destroyed a 40-year-old ancestral home in Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo, on Friday afternoon, May 15, leaving an estimated ₱225,000 in property damages. Firefighters immediately rushed to the scene at Sitio Kalubihan, where the two-story residence owned by the Parreño family was already engulfed in flames.
Investigators noted that the house was constructed using a mix of concrete and highly combustible light materials. The fire reportedly originated on the second floor before rapidly spreading to the ground floor, fueled by strong winds. Two elderly residents and their house helper, who were inside when the blaze broke out, managed to evacuate safely. No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
While the structural damage to the home was deemed total, the occupants managed to salvage a few valuable belongings, including pieces of jewelry. Firefighters successfully declared a "fire out" at 3:45 PM. The BFP is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
