BREAKING NEWS: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested former broadcaster and commentator Jay Sonza in Quezon City on Thursday evening, April 30, 2026.

Agents from the NBI's Operational Tactic and Coordination Division (OTCD), Cybercrime Division (CCD), and Technical Intelligence Division (TID) served the warrant at Sonza's residence in Project 8. The arrest stems from a cyber libel case issued by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC).

The case originated from allegations that Sonza disseminated fabricated medical records of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.. These social media posts, which circulated earlier this year, falsely claimed the President's health was deteriorating. St. Luke’s Medical Center previously disowned the falsified reports that carried its logo.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag confirmed the operation, stating that agents moved immediately after receiving the formal copy of the arrest warrant. While Sonza expressed willingness to undergo the legal process, his counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, noted their intent to protect Sonza's rights, especially as a senior citizen. The warrant reportedly classifies the offense as non-bailable.

Sonza is currently in NBI custody for booking procedures and further legal action.
