NBI Files Human Trafficking and Illegal Drugs Cases Against Family of Former Cong. Mike Defensor
The National Bureau of Investigation has formally filed a complaint with the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office against the wife and daughter of former Congressman Mike Defensor in connection with the operation of a suspected sex-for-hire den in the city. Among those charged with violations of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act are Julie Rose Defensor and Miguel Gabriel Defensor, both officers of the company that owns the attacked establishment.
The cases stem from a raid conducted by the NBI-Special Task Group on the night of April 21 at the Chicago Nightclub and Bleu Hotel in Barangay Ugong, where more than fifty women suspected of being victims of prostitution were rescued. Aside from rescuing the victims, authorities also seized illegal drugs and paraphernalia inside the said building, which reportedly had a secret passageway for illegal transactions.
Julie Defensor, on the other hand, strongly denies the accusations and stressed that they have nothing to do with illegal activities in the said area. According to the Defensors, these complaints are just part of a politically motivated smear campaign and harassment against their family, while the investigation remains open to determine the extent of the operation and other people involved in the case.
