The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have placed all units in Central and Western Mindanao on heightened security alert—specifically a "blue alert" status—to preempt retaliatory attacks from the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG). This escalation follows a decisive one-hour gunbattle on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Barangay Banga-Pantar, Marantao, Lanao del Sur, which resulted in the neutralization of 10 group members.

According to PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the operation was a joint effort between the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade and the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). The mission targeted high-ranking figures, successfully killing the group's alleged amir, Amerol Mangoranca (alias "Usman"), and his sub-leader, Benjie Amir (alias "Muslih"). Both suspects were facing multiple warrants for murder, kidnapping, and serious illegal detention.

Key Details from the Operation

Casualties: Ten DI-MG members were killed (six males and four females), including the two primary leaders. No casualties were reported on the government side.

Seized Materiel: Security forces recovered several high-powered firearms, including two M16 rifles, an M4 rifle, and an M1 Garand, along with a hand grenade and components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs). An ISIS flag was also seized at the site.

Humanitarian Rescue: An infant found at the encounter site was safely rescued by responding units and provided with medical attention.

Prior Surrenders: Officials noted that three of the deceased militants had previously surrendered to authorities before returning to extremist activities.

The military believes those neutralized were responsible for the January 2026 ambush in Munai, Lanao del Norte, which killed four soldiers. PNP and military commanders in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have been ordered to maintain constant mobile patrols and checkpoints to stabilize affected communities and prevent a resurgence of violence.
