DE LIMA HAILS ICC RULING: ‘A VICTORY AGAINST IMPUNITY’
Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima lauded the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision to confirm all charges against former President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The ruling formally commits Duterte to a full-blown trial for crimes against humanity, specifically three counts of murder related to his administration’s "war on drugs".
While celebrating the legal milestone, De Lima emphasized that the day belongs to the victims of what she described as the previous administration's "madness".
She further remarked that while the wheels of justice have taken long to turn, the confirmation of charges is a significant step toward long-overdue accountability for extrajudicial killings (EJKs).
The charges against Duterte have been finally confirmed for crimes that he should have been punished for a long time ago. The wheels of justice should have not taken this long to turn. But we take what we are dealt with for the sake of the rule of law.
