CHED ALLOWS 100% ONLINE CLASSES IN COLLEGES

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved granting "full flexibility" to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country to implement up to 100% online classes.

This move is the commission's response to the worsening oil and electricity supply crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, resulting in high tuition and operating costs for schools.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

Academic Sustainability Plan

According to CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis, the temporary transition to the online setup is part of the government's strategy to maintain learning while reducing the burden on students, parents, and teachers.

Optional Implementation

This is not mandatory. Each university and college will decide whether to move to full online mode based on their capabilities and the needs of their courses.

Energy Conservation

This is in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 114 (s. 2026) which mandates government agencies and the education sector to conserve energy during the global market crisis.

Quality of Education

The CHED emphasized that schools must ensure that the quality of teaching is not affected and that they have adequate facilities for remote learning.

CHED will continue to monitor the situation to determine when students can return to regular face-to-face classes.
