Armed Stolen Vehicle Suspect Found Dead After High-Speed Chase and SWAT Standoff in Jurupa Valley

A pursuit of an armed grand theft auto suspect ended in a fatal standoff in Jurupa Valley on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The incident began shortly after 2:00 p.m. when Riverside County Sheriff's deputies identified a stolen white Cadillac sedan near Limonite Avenue. The driver, a parolee at large, refused to pull over, sparking a high-speed chase that spanned several major freeways, including the 60, I-10, and I-15.

The pursuit briefly halted near Jurupa Valley High School, which was placed on immediate lockdown as a precaution. Following a tense 15-minute confrontation at the intersection of Bellegrave and Etiwanda Avenues, the suspect fled again. In an attempt to stop the vehicle, deputies deployed a "grappler" pursuit intervention tool; however, the device failed to secure the tire, causing the suspect to lose control and crash head-on into a concrete wall behind a residence on Antigua Drive.

A secondary, hours-long standoff ensued following the crash. SWAT teams utilized tear gas, pepper-ball launchers, and a tactical robot to breach the sedan. Just before 6:00 p.m., deputies approached the vehicle and discovered the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
