The Standstill (8:50 PM WIB): This collision forced a following Cikarang Loop Line commuter train (Service PLB 5568A) to stop at track 1 of Bekasi Timur Station.
The Collision (8:52 PM WIB): Approximately two minutes later, the Argo Bromo Anggrek (KA 4) express train, traveling from Jakarta to Surabaya, entered the same track and rear-ended the stationary commuter train.
Casualties and Impact
The express train's locomotive plowed directly into the rear carriage of the commuter train—a carriage reserved exclusively for women.
Victims: All 15 fatalities were adult women who were pinned by mangled metal. Survivors described horrific scenes of passengers being "piled up" inside the crushed compartment.
Injuries: 88 survivors are receiving treatment at local hospitals, including RSUD dr. Chasbullah Abdulmajid.
Long-Distance Passengers: All 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek remained safe.
Official Investigation & Response
Initial assessments suggest the express train may have missed a stop signal before entering the station. The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC/KNKT) is leading a formal investigation into signaling and crew conduct.
President Prabowo Subianto visited victims on Tuesday and immediately approved the construction of flyovers and flying junctions to eliminate dangerous level crossings in the area. KAI has deployed replacement buses for the Bekasi-Cikarang line as track repairs continue. Funeral and medical expenses are being fully covered by PT KAI and insurance.
